Caleb Melby is a senior investigative reporter
with Bloomberg News.

Caleb works with journalists across Bloomberg’s global newsroom to report urgent stories that have prompted action from prosecutors, regulators and lawmakers.

His exclusive report on off-the-books perks at the Trump Organization triggered government probes, prompting the company’s top financial officer to plead guilty to felony charges. The story led to the first and only criminal convictions of Trump’s business.

A deep dive with Polly Mosendz and Ann Choi revealed how mortgage companies pushed military veterans into foreclosure with paperwork delays after the Covid-19 pandemic. A week later, the government asked all lenders to halt foreclosures on vets for six months.

An exposé with Mosendz into Cerebral Inc. prompted a federal inquiry into its prescribing practices. Cerebral’s CEO was ousted and the company stopped prescribing most controlled medications.

His series with Noah Buhayar and David Kocieniewski showed how “well-connected individuals perverted the stated intention” of the federal opportunity zone program, and won a George Polk award.

Stories with Kocieniewski on Kushner Cos. revealed deals that “stretched across the world and into the White House,” winning several awards, including the top honor from the New York Press Club.

He teaches investigative reporting at Columbia University.
